Act of Thanksgiving
This short Act of Thanksgiving is found among the traditional prayers printed with the Baltimore Catechism. Its individual author is not known, and its wording reflects the Church’s longstanding practice of thanking God for creation, redemption, membership in the Church, and every grace received. Catholics commonly pray it in the morning, offering the thoughts, words, actions, and trials of the coming day to God. It can also be prayed whenever one wishes to acknowledge God’s goodness. The Catechism teaches that every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving to God (CCC 2638).
O my God, I thank Thee for all the favors Thou hast bestowed upon me.
I thank Thee for having created and redeemed me, and for having made me a member of Thy holy Church.
I offer Thee my whole being, and in particular all my thoughts, words, and actions, together with all the trials I may undergo this day.
Give me strength, O Lord, to do Thy holy will in all things.
Amen.
