Short version: we keep what we need to run the service, we don't sell it, and you can delete it.

Last updated September 7, 2026.

What we collect

  • Account: your email, name if you give one, and a password hash. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and avatar.
  • Conversations: if you are signed in, the messages you send and the answers you receive are saved so you can return to them. Anonymous conversations are not stored on our servers.
  • Prayer intentions: stored only if you add them.
  • Usage: a weekly count of how much you have used the service, to apply plan limits.
  • Billing: handled by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer ID and your plan. We never see your card number.
  • Technical: standard server logs and privacy-respecting analytics (page views, no cross-site tracking).

How answers are generated

Your messages are sent to third-party AI infrastructure to generate a response. Those providers process the text to produce the answer and are contractually restricted from using it to train their models. Do not include information you would not want processed by a service provider, such as another person's confidential details.

Confession and sensitive matters

AskCatholic is not a confessor and there is no seal of confession over anything you type. Please do not confess specific sins to it. Bring those to a priest, where they are protected absolutely.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not show advertising.
  • We do not share your conversations with anyone except the infrastructure needed to run the service.
