Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

This short act of consecration arose from twentieth-century Catholic devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and is closely associated with Our Lady’s message at Fatima in 1917. It appeared widely in older prayer books as a personal offering of oneself, one’s country, and the whole human race to Mary’s maternal care. Catholics pray it to ask Mary to reign over their daily lives by leading them more faithfully to her Son. Its petitions cover prosperity and adversity, joy and sorrow, health and sickness, and finally death. It is especially fitting after the Rosary, on First Saturdays, or during a Marian holy hour.

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of heaven and earth, and tender Mother of men, in accordance with thy ardent wish made known at Fatima, I consecrate to thee myself, my brethren, my country and the whole human race. Reign over us, O most loving Mother, and grant that we may be thine in prosperity, in adversity, in joy and in sorrow, in health and in sickness, in life and in death. Amen.
