Prayer to St. Cecilia
Saint Cecilia was a Roman virgin and martyr whose witness is traditionally placed in the early centuries of the Church. Her feast is celebrated on November 22. The account of her martyrdom describes her singing to God in her heart, which led Catholics to honor her as the patroness of musicians and sacred music. This traditional devotional prayer asks her help in remaining faithful to Christ and in praising Him with a joyful heart. Musicians, singers, choirs, and all who serve the Church through music may pray it before rehearsals, performances, or the sacred liturgy.
O glorious St. Cecilia, virgin and martyr, you won the martyr’s crown without renouncing your love for Jesus, the delight of your soul.
We ask that you help us to be faithful in our love for Jesus, that, in the communion of the saints, we may praise Him twice in our song of rejoicing for the Blood that He shed which gave us the grace to accomplish His will on earth.
