Prayer to St. Jude
This traditional prayer asks the intercession of St. Jude Thaddeus, one of the Twelve Apostles and a faithful witness to Christ. Its authorship is unknown, but it became widely associated with popular devotion to St. Jude as the patron of desperate and seemingly hopeless causes. Catholics pray it during serious illness, family difficulties, financial distress, and other urgent needs. It may also be used as part of a novena before his feast on October 28. The prayer expresses confidence in the communion of saints and their intercession, which the Church describes in CCC 956.
Most holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, and of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, who am so miserable. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolation and succor of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (here make your request), and that I may praise God with you and all the elect throughout eternity.
I promise you, O blessed Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.
