Prayer to St. Therese of Lisieux

This popular devotional prayer arose from the twentieth-century spread of devotion to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, although its precise authorship is unknown. It recalls her promise to spend her heaven doing good upon earth and to let fall a shower of roses. Catholics pray it when seeking her intercession for a particular need or for greater trust in God’s love. The concluding quotation comes from her autobiography, Story of a Soul, and expresses the spiritual childhood she called her Little Way. This way seeks holiness through humble confidence, small sacrifices, and faithful love in ordinary duties.

O Little Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick for me a rose from the heavenly gardens and send it to me as a message of love. O Little Flower of Jesus, ask God today to grant the favors I now place with confidence in your hands. (Mention your request.) St. Therese, help me to always believe, as you did, in God's great love for me, so that I might imitate your "Little Way" each day. Amen. From Story of a Soul: “I will seek out a means of getting to Heaven by a little way, very short and very straight, a little way that is wholly new.”

When to pray it: Pray this prayer when asking St. Thérèse’s intercession for a special favor or for grace to follow her Little Way.
