Let Nothing Disturb You (St. Teresa of Avila)

Nada te turbe

Known as the Bookmark of St. Teresa, this short prayer is traditionally attributed to St. Teresa of Avila, the sixteenth-century Carmelite reformer and Doctor of the Church. The Spanish verses were found written in her prayer book after her death. They express her teaching on patient trust in the unchanging goodness of God. Catholics pray these words during anxiety, uncertainty, suffering, or any time peace of heart seems distant. The prayer is also suitable for daily meditation because it recalls that earthly troubles pass away, while the soul that possesses God lacks nothing.

Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices.
In Latin

Nada te turbe, nada te espante, todo se pasa, Dios no se muda; la paciencia todo lo alcanza; quien a Dios tiene nada le falta: sólo Dios basta.

When to pray it: Pray it whenever fear or anxiety arises, or as a daily act of trust in God.
