Novena to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

To The Immaculate Heart of Mary

This novena honors the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which is filled with love for God and maternal care for sinners. Devotion to Mary’s heart is rooted in Scripture and was fostered especially by Saint John Eudes. It received renewed urgency through the apparitions at Fatima. The Church celebrates this memorial on the Saturday after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You may pray this novena for conversion, purity, peace, and deeper union with Christ. It is also offered in reparation for sins and in trustful consecration to Mary’s maternal care.

Feast day
Saturday after the Sacred Heart
When to begin
Begin on the Thursday of the preceding week so that the ninth day falls on Friday, the eve of the feast.

Opening prayer, every day

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and earth, and tender Mother of men, in accordance with thy ardent wish made known at Fatima, I consecrate to thee myself, my brethren, my country, and the whole human race. Reign over us, Most Holy Mother of God, and teach us how to make the Heart of thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, reign and triumph in us even as it has reigned and triumphed in thee. Reign over us, Most Blessed Mother, that we may be thine in prosperity and in adversity, in joy and in sorrow, in health and in sickness, in life and in death. O most compassionate Heart of Mary, Queen of Virgins, watch over our minds and hearts and preserve them from the deluge of impurity which thou didst lament so sorrowfully at Fatima. We want to be pure like thee. We want to atone for the many crimes committed against Jesus and thee. We want to call down upon our country and the whole world the peace of God in justice and charity. Therefore, we now promise to imitate thy virtues by the practice of a Christian life without regard to human respect. We resolve to receive Holy Communion on the first Saturday of every month and to offer thee five decades of the Rosary each day, together with our sacrifices, in the spirit of reparation and penance. Amen.
Day 1

A Heart Full of Grace

Mary’s Immaculate Heart shows what God’s grace can accomplish in a human life. From the first moment of her existence, God preserved her from original sin in view of the saving work of Christ. Every grace she received came from her Son. Ask Mary to help you receive God’s grace with gratitude and cooperation. Entrust to her the sins, habits, and fears that keep your heart divided. She will always lead you toward Jesus, the source of holiness.

My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love Thee. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love Thee. Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament! O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners. O Jesus, this is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.
Day 2

Mary’s Faithful Fiat

Mary placed her whole life at God’s disposal when she gave her faithful consent to His will. Her obedience was free, loving, and sustained through uncertainty and suffering. Consecration to her heart should form the same readiness in you. It means allowing God to direct your plans, duties, relationships, and sacrifices. Ask Mary for a steady faith that responds to grace without delay. A sincere daily yes to God prepares the heart to receive Christ and carry His presence to others.

Amen.
Day 3

Pondering God’s Word

Mary kept the mysteries of Christ and pondered them in her heart. Her prayer was attentive, patient, and rooted in all that God had revealed. She teaches you to remain with the words and deeds of Jesus instead of letting them pass quickly from memory. Ask for her help when Scripture seems difficult or prayer feels dry. Quiet fidelity allows the word of God to take root. A heart formed by that word gradually learns to recognize God’s presence and obey His commands.

Amen.
Day 4

Standing Near the Cross

Mary remained beside Jesus during His Passion and stood near the Cross with faithful love. Her sorrow was joined to His sacrifice without weakening her trust in God. When suffering enters your life, ask her to keep you close to Christ. She understands grief, helplessness, and the pain of watching someone you love suffer. Offer these burdens with Jesus rather than carrying them alone. Mary’s steadfast heart teaches you that suffering united to Christ can become an offering of love and intercession.

Amen.
Day 5

A Spirit of Reparation

Reparation begins with love for God and sorrow for sin. Christ’s sacrifice alone redeems the world, yet He allows you to unite prayer, penance, and sacrifice with His perfect offering. Mary calls you to take sin seriously while trusting completely in divine mercy. Offer small acts of patience, self-denial, and faithful duty for those who have turned away from God. Such offerings should never become proud or harsh. Under Mary’s guidance, reparation remains humble, compassionate, and centered on the saving love of Jesus.

Amen.
Day 6

Conversion of Sinners

Mary’s maternal heart desires that every sinner return to her Son and receive mercy. Pray today for those who no longer practice the faith, those trapped in serious sin, and those who have never known Christ. Include yourself in this prayer, since conversion remains a lifelong need. Avoid judging the hidden state of another person’s soul. Instead, offer patient prayer and a credible Christian witness. Mary helps you seek conversion with compassion, confidence, and respect for the freedom of every person.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.
Day 7

Purity of Heart

Purity of heart means loving God without allowing sin to rule your thoughts, choices, or relationships. Mary’s perfect purity points to the freedom for which you were created. Ask her to guard your senses, imagination, and affections. Bring temptations honestly to Christ through prayer and the sacraments rather than hiding them in shame. Practice modesty, self-control, and respect for the dignity of every person. Mary’s intercession can help you grow in a clean heart that sees others with charity rather than selfish desire.

Amen.
Day 8

Peace Through Christ

True peace comes from Christ and begins with hearts reconciled to God. Mary directs you toward repentance, prayer, and faithful obedience as the foundation of peace. Pray the Rosary with attention, allowing its mysteries to shape your thoughts and actions. Ask for peace in your family, the Church, and every nation suffering from violence. Then examine the ways you can become more patient, truthful, and forgiving. Under Mary’s care, prayer for peace should lead to concrete acts of justice and charity.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy. Amen.
Day 9

Consecrated to Mary

Consecration to the Immaculate Heart places your life under Mary’s maternal guidance so that you may belong more completely to Jesus. It is a commitment to imitate her faith, purity, humility, and charity. Renew this offering with sincerity, including your prayer, work, suffering, relationships, and future. Ask Mary to correct whatever draws you away from her Son. Remain faithful through the sacraments, daily prayer, and works of mercy. Her heart is a secure school of discipleship because it is wholly centered on Christ.

Amen.

Closing prayer

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation.
