Novena to St. Raphael the Archangel

The Book of Tobit begins with sorrow in two distant households. Tobit suffers blindness, while Sarah bears grief and false accusations. Both pray, and God sends Raphael to bring healing according to His providence. Your prayer may seem unanswered because you cannot yet see what God is arranging. Raphael reminds you that heaven is not indifferent to suffering. Place your intention before God with confidence, while asking for the grace to accept His timing and the form His answer takes.

Raphael comes to Tobias in the appearance of an ordinary traveler. Tobias does not recognize the archangel, yet he accepts his guidance and sets out under his protection. God often helps you through people and circumstances that appear unremarkable. A wise friend, a faithful priest, or a timely warning may serve His providence. Ask for humility to receive sound counsel. Pray also for discernment, so that you may recognize what leads toward truth, virtue, and lasting peace.

When danger rises from the river, Tobias is afraid, but Raphael tells him what to do. The threat becomes part of God’s remedy for later trials. Travel always involves some uncertainty, whether the road is familiar or new. You may ask Raphael for protection without giving way to fear or superstition. Make prudent preparations, act responsibly, and entrust what you cannot control to God. Let every departure remind you that your whole life is directed toward your heavenly home.

Raphael’s name points to God as the source of healing. In Tobit, physical remedies, obedient action, prayer, and divine providence work together. Catholic faith does not oppose medical care. It receives good medicine as one of the ordinary gifts through which God may help you. Ask for healing, but also ask for patience, wise treatment, and freedom from sin. The deepest healing restores friendship with God, especially through repentance, Confession, and the grace of the sacraments.

Sarah longs for deliverance from loneliness, sorrow, and disgrace. God’s answer is not a casual attachment but a marriage approached with faith and prayer. If you hope to find a spouse, ask Raphael to guide you toward someone who sincerely seeks God and respects the dignity of marriage. Pray for freedom from desperation, fantasy, and fear.
