St. Frances Xavier Cabrini

Told by the Pope to go west instead of east, she founded sixty-seven institutions for immigrants across the Americas.

The story

Refused by two congregations because of frail health, Frances founded her own, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and dreamed of China. Leo XIII sent her to New York's Italian immigrants instead. Terrified of water, she crossed the Atlantic more than twenty times, building orphanages, schools, and hospitals from New York to Buenos Aires. She was the first U.S. citizen canonized.
